My Home Lab

As I am working with different customers, constantly testing things for work in my home lab. On this page I’ll introduce you to my home lab. It all started a few years ago with VMware Workstation & Fusion and now I am running with a good configuration which suits all my requirements. When someone hear about my lab, they often ask what hardware is in the lab. I’m putting this post together so I can point people here and say, “this is it.”

Compute

For compute resources are fulfilled by two Lenovo P920 ThinkStation and ThinkCentre M820z with below configuration

  • 2* Lenovo Think Station P920 Tower
  • 2* Intel® Xeon® Silver 4110 (2.1GHz / 8 cores) Processor
  • 2* 160 GB DDR4 (32GB x 4 + 16GB x 2) RAM
  • 1* 256 GB Internal SSD
  • 3* 1 TB Internal SSD
  • 2* 1 Gbps Ethernet Port
  • Lenovo ThinkCentre M820z All-In-One
  • Intel® Core™ i5-8400 (9M Cache, 2.80 GHz, 6 Cores) Processor
  • 32GB (16×2) DDR4-2666 RAM
  • 1TB Internal SSD
  • 1 Gbps Ethernet Port

Storage

Storage requirements are provisioned from Synology DiskStation DS920+

  • 2* 2TB NAS Drives
  • 2*1TB SATA Drives
  • 2*400 GB Synology NVMe Cache
  • RAID 1
  • NFS Protocol
  • 2* 1 Gbps Ethernet

Network

For network connectivity Cisco SG350-10P 10-Port Gigabit PoE Managed Switch is used

  • 10* 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Ports
  • Advanced Layer 2 (LAN Base) and Layer 3 (IP Base) support
  • 10 x 1G copper plus 2 x 1G SFP Uplink

Server Rack

I am using 27u rack to house these equipment including servers, storage, switches, and routers.
